The Fringe Fest takes place in downtown Ithaca. We’ve made a list of our favorite places to get food, all within walking distance of the festival venues.
The Old Greeny Fringe Fest all times places in about a square mile, right in the heart of downtown Ithaca. Downtown is flat and very walkable. There is also a great bike share program in Ithaca, in fact Ithaca Bike Share is one of our event partners! So if you want to explore Ithaca by bike, you can rent an electric bike share bike a pay as you go!
There’s also the TCAT bus system if you want another way to get around town. The main downtown routes are 20, 21, 14 and 14S.
Got a car that you want to park someplace so you can explore on foot or bike? The Old Greeny Fringe Fest official park and ride (a bike) spot is the Ithaca Farmer’s Market on April 27th-May 1st. There is also parking at The Cherry Arts April 27th to May 2nd. In addition there is lots of street parking and there are three parking garages downtown…the Cayuga Street Parking Garage, the Green Street Parking Garage and the Seneca Street Parking Garage.
There are a ton of people who are part of OGFF. We’ll have volunteers helping out at every venue. We’ll also have venue captains assigned to each venue. These are the folks running tech for your show. And then there are the venue managers, the people who own the venues. You may not see them, but they’re amazing people! And of course there is a team of organizers making this all happen, and you are likely to meet some of them at some point while you’re participating in the festival. Click the button below to meet the organizing team!
You should have gotten a google calendar invite for your tech rehearsal(s). If you don’t know your tech times, email us at info@oldgreenyfest.com
For the most part tech rehearsals were scheduled on the same day as your show and for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Please bring anything that would be helpful for the venue captain to support your show. This may be a printed script with cues, or a short cue to cue list, a USB drive with your music, a special microphone you want to use, etc.
Lighting is very limited in some venues so we ask that you have no more than 3 lighting cues.
The gear also varies between venues, but at minimum there will be a way to amplify sound and do basic lights on the stage area. We encourage you to bring your own mics, stands, amps and whatever else will make your show great.
Props and set up should be minimal. All events have 15 minutes to set up and 15 minutes to strike, so if you can set it up in 15 minutes without breaking a sweat, it’s good!
Yes! There are nightly after parties! These are spaces where we hope you’ll come and meet your fellow event producers and connect with the community!

Some Fringe Festivals benefit from built-in audiences — communities where attendees automatically return year after year and naturally flow from one performance to the next. Old Greeny Fringe Fest is still growing, and that means artists play a vital role in bringing audiences into the experience.
Ithaca may be smaller than major cities, but it is incredibly rich with events, performances, festivals, and cultural offerings competing for attention. Success here doesn’t happen by accident. Over time, we’ve observed what helps shows thrive, even when artists are new to the area or don’t have an existing local network.
Energy and initiative matter. Participating in a Fringe Festival means embracing both artistry and visibility. We know marketing can feel like an extra creative burden, but audience connection is part of the ecosystem that allows Fringe to exist.
Think visually. People are far more likely to attend a show when they can quickly understand what it is. Your promotional images and videos should clearly communicate your aesthetic, tone, and experience. They can absolutely be artistic, evocative, or unconventional — clarity and creativity are not opposites. When someone sees your materials, they should instantly grasp the essence of your work.
Engage directly with the community. Digital promotion is valuable, but the performances that consistently draw strong audiences tend to include some element of face-to-face visibility. Ithaca is uniquely suited to this kind of creative outreach. Street corners, community spaces, gathering spots, and festival venues offer opportunities to connect with potential audiences in memorable ways.
Fringe rewards inventiveness. Artists have promoted their work through pop-up moments, wearable branding, playful interactions, live previews, and unexpected visual presence. There is no single formula — the goal is to create curiosity, recognition, and conversation.
Know how to describe your show. A strong one- or two-sentence description is one of your most powerful marketing tools. Specificity creates intrigue. Audiences respond to concrete imagery and clear experiences.
“Our show explores memory.”
versus
“Blending live music, movement, and immersive storytelling, our show follows a woman navigating fractured memories inside a surreal dreamscape.”
Both are true. Only one helps an audience picture the experience.
Old Greeny Fringe Fest celebrates experimentation, originality, and bold creative expression. Your marketing can reflect that same spirit.
Fringe is collaborative. When artists actively engage audiences, everyone benefits — performers, attendees, and the festival itself.
Postcards, posters, and fliers are the visual currency of Fringe Festivals. They are often the first — and sometimes only — interaction a potential audience member has with your show.
If you are traveling from outside the region, printed materials become even more important. They allow you to introduce your work while exploring the community, meeting new people, and building curiosity around your performance.
In our experience, artists who invest in physical promotional materials consistently see stronger attendance. Visibility matters. Tangibility matters. A postcard placed directly into someone’s hand is still one of the most effective marketing tools available.
Please keep your postcards no larger than 4×6”. This ensures we can display as many artists as possible on festival tables and within venue spaces. You may also bring 8-1/2″x11″ posters & fliers to hang up around town.
There are many affordable online printing options, and local print shops in Ithaca also offer competitive pricing. Uncle Marty’s will be offering printing discounts to OGFF events. We recommend printing a minimum of 100 postcards/ fliers/posters. Many artists find that 500 provides greater flexibility throughout the week. If you are printing posters, 8.5″x11” tends to work well for community boards and venue displays.

[DATE / TIME]

Tickets: [WEBSITE / QR CODE]
We strongly encourage including a QR code on your materials linking directly to your ticket page or the festival website. QR codes reduce friction and allow audiences to act immediately. Numerous free QR generators are available, and most modern design platforms include built-in tools.
All promotional materials must include:
• Old Greeny Fringe Fest logo
• Ticket information
• Website URL or QR code
This ensures audiences can clearly identify your show as part of the festival and easily access tickets.
Fringe marketing thrives on creativity. Your materials should reflect the personality, tone, and energy of your work while remaining clear and readable.
See marketing materials above for links to editable templates. Logos are links are below.
Old Greeny Fringe Fest will distribute press releases to local and regional media outlets featuring festival-wide information and select highlights. These materials introduce the festival, establish context, and help generate general awareness.
Artists are strongly encouraged to send their own press releases with more detailed information about their individual productions. Additional outreach increases the likelihood of coverage and helps audiences discover your work. Independent publicity efforts benefit not only your show, but the broader festival ecosystem.
A thoughtful press release does not need to be complicated. Clear descriptions, compelling angles, and accessible language are often more effective than overly polished promotional writing.
When preparing your release, consider emphasizing:
• What makes your show distinct
• Why it is timely, unusual, or engaging
• Visual elements or experiential hooks
• Any local connections or relevance
Possible outlets for press distribution may include:
• Local newspapers and arts publications
• Regional event calendars
• Community newsletters
• Radio stations
• Arts and culture blogs
• University media channels
• Local podcasts
• Tourism / visitor guides
Ithaca has a vibrant network of community-centered media, and many outlets actively seek arts-related stories, especially those tied to unique regional events.
Press outreach is often most effective when framed as storytelling rather than advertising. Media contacts are typically looking for narratives, perspectives, and points of interest that resonate with their audiences.
Below are potential places artists may consider for press submissions.
Ithaca & Tompkins County Media
- The Ithaca Journal
- Ithaca Times
- The Ithacan (Ithaca College)
- Ithaca Voice
- Tompkins Weekly
- Cornell Daily Sun
- Syracuse.com / The Post-Standard
- What’s Hot Magazine (Cortland)
- WBNG-TV (Binghamton
Old Greeny Fringe Fest promotes the festival as a whole. Artists are responsible for promoting their individual productions. This shared approach is central to how Fringe Festivals operate — collective visibility paired with artist-driven audience building.
To support your efforts, we provide several digital platforms designed to amplify your work and make promotion more accessible.
Bookmark these spaces:
- Official Festival Website – https://oldgreenyfringefest.com/
All festival information flows through the official site. Each production receives its own page featuring description, images, schedule, and ticket access. The website also houses festival schedules, announcements, and any festival-wide offerings.
This is your most reliable and consistent link. We strongly encourage directing audiences here on your promotional materials:
For tickets and more information, visit Link Coming Soon.
- Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/oldgreenyfest
Facebook remains an important discovery platform, but organic posts often reach only a small percentage of followers. Visibility increases dramatically through interaction.
Artists are strongly encouraged to:
• Follow the festival page
• Like, tag, and share posts
• Comment and engage with content
Interaction signals relevance. Posts connected to artist engagement consistently reach significantly larger audiences.
When the festival shares your materials, we will link to your organization’s page when possible. Individual performers are not automatically tagged. Artists are encouraged to tag collaborators, cast members, and creative teams to extend reach through their networks.
- Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/oldgreenyfringefest/
Instagram is a highly visual platform well suited to Fringe work.
Artists are encouraged to:
• Tag the festival in posts and stories
• Use official festival hashtags
• Share rehearsal content, design elements, and process
• Submit images and videos for festival sharing
Short-form video performs especially well. Reels, stories, and behind-the-scenes content help audiences connect with your work before attending.
Artists may also request an Instagram takeover. This offers an opportunity to share your creative process, artistic voice, and festival experience directly with the OGFF audience.
- Festival Blog / Artist Features – https://oldgreenyfringefest.com/
This section highlights participating artists through interviews, features, and promotional materials. It also serves as a discovery tool for audiences, press, and community members.
Materials artists frequently submit include:
• Rehearsal photos and videos
• Promotional imagery
• Past performance documentation
• Reviews or press quotes
• Interviews or creative insights
Video content is particularly valuable. Even brief clips help audiences understand tone, style, and experience.
Remember: audiences can only engage with what they can see. For many attendees, your digital presence will be their first introduction to your work.
Thoughtful, consistent sharing helps build curiosity, recognition, and attendance.
Fringe Festivals thrive on visibility, experimentation, and connection. Your online presence is an extension of your artistic identity.
Strong promotional images are one of the most important tools you have for attracting audiences.
With modern smartphones and editing apps, there is very little standing between artists and high-quality visuals. Professional photography is always welcome, but it is absolutely not required. A well-composed, high-resolution image taken on a smartphone can be incredibly effective when paired with thoughtful lighting, framing, and editing.
Resourcefulness and aesthetic awareness go a long way — qualities Fringe artists already possess.
First and foremost: please submit images without text.
Your show information will already appear alongside your image wherever it is used — on ticketing pages, schedules, social posts, and festival materials. Text embedded within images limits flexibility and often creates visual clutter across platforms.
You are welcome to submit separate promotional graphics that include text, titles, or logos for social media use. However, we strongly prefer clean, text-free versions of your imagery for general marketing, press, and layout purposes.
Regarding image size:
There is no single required format. Festival images appear across a wide variety of placements including listings, press requests, digital promotions, and social platforms. Versatility is key.
Square images work well for many listings. Vertical images perform especially well for stories and reels. Landscape images are often useful for press and editorial layouts.
When possible, consider providing:
• A square image
• A vertical image
• A landscape image
High resolution is more important than exact dimensions. Larger files allow greater flexibility for resizing and formatting.
Your images should feel visually distinctive, clear, and representative of your work. They are often the first impression audiences will have of your production.
Choose visuals that communicate tone, energy, and experience.
To expand visibility for your show, we strongly encourage artists to submit their event listings to local and regional calendars.
Community event calendars are one of the most effective — and often overlooked — promotional tools available to performers. These platforms reach audiences who may not yet be familiar with the festival and are actively searching for things to do in Ithaca and the surrounding region.
Calendar listings also provide meaningful search engine benefits. The more places your show appears online, the easier it becomes for potential audiences to discover your work.
When submitting your listing, keep descriptions clear, concise, and engaging. Focus on what makes your performance distinctive while including essential details such as dates, times, venue, and ticket access.
Here are some calendars to submit to:
Ithaca Times, DIA, Visit Ithaca, I Love NY, Ithaca College and Cornell Campus Groups, Spectrum News Syracuse, KROC, Tompkins Weekly, Cayuga Chamber, NYSCA
